Internal Assessment
The marks for internal assessment are set apart for theory and practical in each subject. There is continuous internal assessment. There shall be minimum of two test and two assignments in each subjects, the average of which shall form the marks for internal assessment. The internal assessment marks of the students are notified on the notice board at the end of each term. A student must secure at least 50% of the total marks fixed for internal assessment in a particular subject in order to be eligible to appear in University examination in that subject.
Registering for Examinations
M.Sc. Nursing course shall have two examinations one at the end of the 1st year (M.Sc. Nursing I) and the other at the end of the 2nd year (M.Sc. Nursing II)

a) M. Sc. Nursing I Year Examination:   

There are four theory papers common to all candidates irrespective of branch/speciality chosen. In addition to these four papers there shall be one paper in Nursing speciality chosen by the candidate.

There shall be no practical examination for the common subjects but there shall be one practical examination in the Nursing speciality branch chosen by the candidate

Criteria for Pass:
To be declared passed in the M.Sc. Nursing I Examination the candidate has to pass in all the common subjects and nursing subjects in the Ist year securing not less than 50% of the marks in the university examination both in theory and practical examination.

Carry over:
A candidate who has passed in any of the three subjects, but has failed in any 2 subjects, is permitted to proceed to the II year. However, such a candidate shall have to pass all the failed subjects before becoming eligible to appear for II year M.Sc. Nursing University examination.

b) M. Sc. Nursing II Year Examination:
   

The University examination consist of dissertation, written papers (theory) practical examination and viva-voce.

Only candidate who’s dissertation has been accepted shall be eligible to appear for the M.Sc. II year University examination.

There are 2 theory papers. The paper on Nursing Administration shall be common to all the candidates irrespective of the speciality chosen. The paper on Nursing Speciality II shall be the branch chosen by the candidate.

For viva-voce there is 60 marks which is distributed as 50 and 10 for component 1 and component 2. To be declared pass in the M.Sc. II year the candidate has to pass all the prescribed subjects and secure 50% aggregate marks in the University examination in all the subjects.
Dissertation
Each candidate pursuing M.Sc. Nursing course is required to carry out work on selected research project under the guidance of a recognized post-graduate teacher. The results of such a research project shall be submitted in the form of dissertation. This is to train a graduate student in research methods and techniques. It includes identification of problems, formulation of a hypothesis, search and review of literature, getting acquainted with recent advances, designing a research study, collection of data, critical analysis, interpretation of results and drawing conclusions.

Initially the student has to submit the synopsis of the dissertation to the Registrar of the University in the prescribed performa which will be reviewed by the University and will register the dissertation topic. No change in the dissertation topic or guide shall be made without the prior approval of the University.

Four copies of the dissertation shall be submitted to the Registrar Evaluation  through the guide and the Principal of the College along with the soft copy(CD) three months before the final examination. The dissertation will be assessed by two examiners one internal and one external appointed by the University. No marks shall be awarded for dissertation. Acceptance of the dissertation is a pre-requisite for a candidate to appear for final examination.
