The Master of Science in Nursing programme (M.Sc. Nursing) is offered in Dr. M.V.Shetty Institute of Health Sciences and this course is built upon Bachelors curriculum in Nursing recognized by Indian Nursing Council.The programme of M.Sc. Nursing prepares nurses for leadership positions in Nursing and Health fields. They can function as specialist nurses practitioners, consultants, educators, administrators and investigators in wide variety of professional setting in meeting the national prioritise and changing needs of the society. The programme prepares nursing graduates who are professionally equipped, creative, self directed and socially motivated to effectively deal with day-to-day problems within the existing constraints and act as an agent of social change. The programme also encourages accountability and commitment to life long learning which fosters improvement of quality care.

Eligibility for Admission
A candidate seeking admission to the M.Sc. Nursing course should have:
- Passed B.Sc. Nursing (Basic) or Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing or Post Certificate B.Sc. Nursing of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, Karnataka (RGUHS), or any other University accepted as equivalent by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, Karnataka, and must have obtained a minimum of not less than 55% aggregate marks. In respect of candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe, the aggregate marks obtained be not less than 50% instead of 55% as above.
- Minimum of one year of experience after obtaining B.Sc. Nursing(Basic) or minimum of one year of work experience prior or after Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing degree or Post Certificate B.Sc. Nursing, in a hospital or in Nursing educational Institution which is recognised by Indian Nursing Council.
| The Proposed work experience certificate should be considered only from the date of registration Certificate issued from concerned State Nursing Council.
- Shall have registered in any State Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife .
- Candidate shall be medically fit
| Criteria For selection
| The selection of the candidates should be based on the merit of the Entrance examination held by University or competent authority.

Duration of the Programme
The course of study for M.Sc. Nursing is extended for a period of two academic years

1. Medical Surgical Nursing – 6
2. OBG Nursing – 6
3. Community Nursing – 6
4. Pediatric Nursing – 6
5. Psychiatric Nursing - 6
