Ph.D. Programme in Speech and Hearing
Dr. M.V.Shetty College of Speech & Hearing is offering a 4 year Bachelor Degree Course in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology and a 2 years masters programme in Auiology and Speech Language Pathology. Recently the Mangalore University has approved a Ph.D. programme for the college recognizing the college as research Center in the field of Speech Language and Hearing.
Under the Ph.D. programme students can pursue their Doctoral studies under a recognized guide. Dr. T.A. Subba Rao, Professor of Speech & Hearing of the College is recognized has a Research Guide for supervising the research leading Ph.D. in the field of Speech Language and Hearing at Mangalore University vide ORDER NO. MU / ACC/RECOG / Guide / Speech & Hearing / CR257 / 2005-06 / A3, Mangalagangothri dt. 27.12.2005.

Eligibility for Programme
Candidates who has obtained a Masters Degree from Mangalore University or from any University in the Karnataka State or from any other University recognized as equivalent their to securing not less than 55% marks in the aggregate at the Masters Degree course as a whole shall be eligible to register for the Ph.D. Degree programme. However in the case of SC/ST and Category I candidates the minimum marks required shall be 50%.

| Mode of Application:
|
| The candidate who wish to register for Ph.D. programme shall apply for registration in the prescribed form to the Registrar of the Mangalore University and the application shall be forwarded through the recognized guide (Dr. A. Subba Rao) in response a notification of the Ph.D. programme published by the Mangalore University during the month of August and September. T
The candidate for the Ph.D. programme shall work in the Department of Speech & Hearing of the College of Dr. M.V.Shetty College of Speech & Hearing under Dr. T.A. Subba Rao who is a recognized guide.
Every candidate shall submit synopsis of his research work within 6 months of joining the course to the Board of Studies in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology for approval.
No candidate shall be permitted to join any course of study other than that connected with Ph.D. programme concerned or appear for any other examination conducted by the University or by any other University during the period of registration.

| | Mode of Selection: |
| Candidate who is eligible for the Ph.D. degree programme as stated above shall be selected on the basis of an Entrance Test administrated by the University. The merit list of such candidates shall be prepared by allotting 50% marks for entrance test and 50% of marks secured at the Masters Degree course. However in case of a candidate who has passed the NET/SLET/GATE/JRF/MPhil or belongs to FIP/QIP programmes, such candidates will not be required to appear for the entrance test. Further in the case of candidates selected to work under specialized funded projects and also in the case of Government sponsored Foreign students, such candidates also need not appear for the entrance test. They shall be directly registered for the Ph.D. programme keeping in mind their specialization and requirement to work under the project/scheme etc.

Duration of the Programme
Every full time candidate shall work for a minimum period of 3 years from the date of registration. The part time candidate shall work for a minimum period of 4 years.
The full time candidate should complete the research work and submit the thesis to the Mangalore University within a maximum period of 5 years from the date of registration. in case of part time candidate the period for submission shall be 6 years.
After registration every candidate shall submit half yearly progress report regularly through the guide to the Principal of the Dr. M.V.Shetty College of Speech & Hearing who shall forward it to the convener of the doctoral committee.
If a candidate fails to submit two consecutive half yearly progress report in time or the progress report submitted by the candidate are not satisfactory, the doctoral committee shall recommend to the University for cancellation of the registration. However in all such cases the candidate is hard.
